Massachusetts Pistol Permit

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts will grant a "temporary license to carry a firearm" to an applicant from another state who holds a pistol permit in his home state, has a Massachusetts State Police firearms safety certificate, and pays the $100 annual fee.

Application Process:

  1. Take an approved safety course from a Massachusetts State Police approved instructor. (Yes, we offer that!)
  2. Complete the 3 page Mass LTC application - Link to MSP Page
  3. Mail in with your bank check or money order for $100 and a copy of your home state permit to  Criminal History Systems Board, Attn: Firearms Records Bureau, 200 Arlington St., Suite 2200, Chelsea, MA 02150.
  4. Enclose a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope
  5. Wait for them to contact you for your "personal interview" and to take your photograph and fingerprints.
  6. Go home and wait for your permit in the mail.
